Scarlet's Stride

Over 100 walkers took part in the annual Scarlet's Stride on Sunday 21st September 2003 to help the restoration fund for St John the Divine, Parish church, Cliviger.

With entries and sponsorships the church will benefit with over £1,400 contributions from the 12 mile walk.

Organiser Eric Wrathall said, "This was our sixth annual walk and once again the weather was kind to us. I would like to thank our sponsors, Shanks Landfill of Cliviger and all those people who contributed in making this another excellent family day out.
It was marvellous to see so many youngsters taking part with their parents. The walk brought quite a few people from out of the area, many returning to Burnley to join up with their families.
It has now become a traditional annual walk for many Burnley people".

Three youngsters proudly show off their certificates after completing 11 miles of the Scarlet's Stride. The last mile over the rocks of Thieveley Pike could have proved too much for the young ones
so instead of taking the "high road" they took to the low road, along the A646, back to St John the Divine church in Cliviger where they were given a standing ovation by the older walkers. The children are left to right Beth Ecroyd of Barrowford aged 9, Sam Heyworth aged 10 of Lowerhouse, Burnley and Jessica Nixon aged 5 of Cliviger.

"Well done you two" says organiser Eric Wrathall to two young entrants on completing Scarlett's Stride, a 12 mile walk around Cliviger, near Burnley.
The two young walkers, 10 year old Adam Nixon of Cliviger and Chloe Pound of Burnley did the whole circuit in just over five hours taking in the beautiful valleys and gorges of the parish in aid of the local church, St John the Divine, Restoration Fund.
Adam could not take part in last year's annual "Stride" due to a collapsed lung but he was determined to complete the walk this year. Chloe was the youngest girl to complete the full 12 mile walk
